Pack Activities 2010-2011


Summertime events were a real blast this year:
JUNE 2010
June 19th Fishing Derby at Circle B Bar Ranch Reserve
Learned about a great nature center with lots of beautiful surroundings for biking, hiking, and nature observing. We did a little fishing but didn't catch anything ( we think it might have been do the GATORS EYEBALLING US!!)
 

DAYCAMP AND TWILIGHT CAMP AT MEDARD PARK JUNE 14-18 AND JUNE 21-25
The boys did great learning about volcanos and making bug catchers and bug cages, terraniums, plaster casts, playing games- chess, flag football, kickball and more. Summer camp is a great opportunity and worth the money!

Scout Day with the Rays June 27th
Lots of comradery, hot dogs and cracker jacks. Rays lost but we enjoyed being together. The boys ran the bases after the game!

JULY 2010
Brandon 4th July Parade
was a joint effort with Pack 105-THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HELPED MAKE IT POSSIBLE!! We were lucky to make 3/4 of the parade route before the heavens opened up with a deluge of rain!!

Webelos Resident Camp at Flaming Arrow-
2 Webelos attended this NEW PROGRAM and they had a great time. Meals were provided in the mess hall so the parents didn't have to do a thing!! You'll want to be a part of this next year. 1st year Webelos earn 4-5 activity pins including Naturalist,Forestor,Geologist,Athlete Aquanaut, Craftsman and shooting sports. 2nd year Webelos participate in a number of Boy Scout activities including canoing, climbing wall, rapelling, cooking, 1st aide,and navigating
   

Cosmic Bowling in July:
Mr Patrick was our resident Bowler and high scorer!
  

Sponge Dodgeball and Water bottle rockets at Colson Park:
Thanks to Mr Billy for organizing the Dodgeball and Mr Grant for the water bottle rockets. We had a great game of leaders vs the youth and finished off with watermelon after all the fun.
   

Wild West Shooting Sports in Lakeland:
  

Fossil Digging at Mulberry Fossil Museum
Here we learned about rocks and minerals and earned our Geology Belt loop and Webelos Pin. Everybody got great fossil samples too. Afterwards, we stopped at Medard Park and finished off with a picnic.

August 2010

2nd Annual Adults Vs Youth Kickball
Adults 2 Youth 0- We'll get you old timers next year! Course I won't name any names- but it will take a whole year for some of you leaders to heal your aches and pains!!
 

Hillsborough River State Park back to school picnic
Had a great time riding our bikes, playing games, making ice cream and a little geocaching in the rain! Thanks to Mr Billy and Ms. Danelle for providing the ice cream treats.

SEPTEMBER 2010

International Coastal Clean up Sept 25, 2010
Pack 797 helped cleaned up the Dover District County Park in preparation of the upcoming annual District Fishing Derby

OCTOBER 2010
Webelos campout Oct 2-4, 2010 Lithia Springs Park
Webelos enjoyed a weekend of camping, cooking, fishing, swimming and participated in a Flag Retirement Ceremony

Spook O Ree Campout Oct 22-24 2010 at Flaming Arrow Reservation Lake Wales
Boys enjoyed BB Guns, Archery, pumpkin bowling, Webelos went down the climbing wall, Bears worked on their whittlin chip and we finished off the evening Saturday with tons of fun at the Spooky trail and carnival. BIG THANKS TO Mr Billy for our Box Pizza Dinners and also a thank you to Kevin L for all his muscle helping keeping the camp going!

NOVEMBER 2010
November 6th Loopapalooza Belt Loop Day
Scouts spent the day at Hillsborough Community College in Plant City learning new games and interesting facts as they earned Belt loops and Webelos Activity Pins.
 

November 12-14th Council 100th Anniversary Camporee
Scouts spent the weekend celebrating the Scouting experience with friends, family, and having tons of FUN!!

DECEMBER 2010
December 7th Military Card Service Project. 25 cards were prepared and sent out the the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes.

December 10-12th Webelos Woods Campout
learning about becoming Boy Scouts. Webelos performed more high adventure activities including repelling and rope bridge. They learned fire safety, fire building, ax handling, meal preparation and cooking.
   

December Pack Meeting 12/14
Pack 797 wrapped up our 3rd annual Toys for Tots drive collecting 15 games and toys that were delivered to the Marines
and radio station 93.3 "Stuff a Bus" Drive.

JANUARY 2011
Medard Campout Jan 9,10
Families came out for the day for a Pinewood Derby workshop led by Mr Grant and a few stayed for the night for a family campout. We had great weather and a great time!

Pack Activities 2009-2010


Pack 797 got busy and participated in this year's clean up at Reese's Boat & Fish Camp on Lake Thonotosassa picking up trash including bottles, cans, diapers, cigarette lighters, tabs, bottle tops and more than 175 cigarette butts.

Everyone had a great time watching the game , eating hotdogs, getting a promo Rattle and running the bases after the game.  The Rays won 3-1.

November 2009

Pack Voting booths and elections night. Thanks to Mr Grant and the Scorpion Patrol for constructing our voting booths and allowing all the boys to take part in their Democratic process. Results to follow..

Fall Festival
Hosted by the Italiano family this year, we had a great time, great food and wonderful weather. Outdoor activities included an obstacle course put together by the Webelos, a ball toss by the Bears, and a water balloon target practice by the Tigers. Mr. Frank provided great walking sticks and hotdogs over the fire. A Derby race and pie eating contests rounded off the night and the "fill em up" popcorn sellers got to throw a pie into a leader's face- Mr. Billy, Mr. Chris, Mr. Greg, and Mr. Grant were recipients of this SWEET TREAT!

Holiday greetings for Active Military

In conjunction with L3 Government Communications, 72 handmade Christmas cards were created by the Cub Scouts and sent to active Military overseas.

Toys for Tots Drive Christmas 2009

The Pack celebrated a successful year with a tremendous outpooring of love with our Toy Drive this year. We collected in all 70 items that went to the Toys for Tots program on December 18, 2009.

January 2010
Haitian Relief Drive
Pack 797 stepped up the the plate and collected water, food, and clothing and donated to the Adullan Worship Center @ 1st United Methodist, a Haitian worship group who flew the much needed items to Haiti in the weeks that followed the devastating earthquake.

 

Pack Campout Hillsborough River State Park Jan 15-17

With two weeks of the coldest January on the record books, Pack 797 was blessed with glorious weather for our 2nd Pack campout (4th for the Webelos). The weekend included flag football, frisbee (Ultimate) and kickball, the study of bugs, a nature hike with the Park Ranger, storytime around the campfire, and a pancake breakfast sponsored by the park.

Pinewood Derby February 2010

28 Racers (including adults) spent the afternoon on Feb 6th cheering each other on and doing the Victory Dance during our annual Pinewood Derby Race. Certainly, always a highlight of our year.

February 20, 2010
Annual Scouting for Food Drive

Pack 797 participated in Gulf Ridge Council's Scouting for Food event once again this year. Each Scout w/his parent distribute collection bags in their designated neighborhood and return a week later to collect. This year, we collected over 120lbs food which was donated to ECHO.

March 2010

Several leaders volunteered at Adventure Base 100 at the Strawberry Festival March 14th. This is a traveling interactive presentation by BSA in conjunction with the celebration of our 100th yr Anniversary.
